Résumé : The Development Research Centre of the State Council is a policy research and consulting institution that directly supports the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. Its primary focus is on researching comprehensive, forward-looking, and strategic issues related to economic and social development as well as reform and opening up. Since 2023, the Centre has released the annual China Development Report, which incorporates the collective insights of its members to highlight China’s remarkable journey towards modernization under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The report presents the Centre’s research findings on crucial topics concerning China’s development, making it a valuable resource for Chinese and international readers and researchers alike. The China Development Report 2024 documents the theoretical, institutional, and practical progress made in advancing Chinese modernization during 2023. It includes findings from the Centre’s significant research studies, namely: “China’s New Energy Industry: Market-Based Support for Global Green and Low-Carbon Transition”, “Understanding the Development of China’s Future Industries”, “Major Trends and Implications of the Development of AI”, “Capturing the Economic Characteristics of Data”, and “Improving the Carbon Market Trading Mechanism and Pursuing the Goals of Peak Carbon Emissions and Carbon Neutrality”.
